Leon Jordan, The Man Behind the Band

Leon Jordan got interested in music as a teenager playing trumpet in his high school band in Raleigh. After graduation and a couple of years at NC State, he joined the Navy. "I wanted to be either a fighter pilot or a trumpet player," he says. He was invited to join the Navy band, which put him in a world most servicemen never see. Jordan liked the life enough to try for a profession in music once he got out of the service.  "I went to New York..." but his advisors there told him to return to NC to complete his education and he ended up with a doctorate from NC State. He eventually started teaching at State, but had a dance band throughout his years at the school.  His band played for visiting celebrities and had a 15-year stint as the house band for the Governor's Inn playing at least 41 weeks each year.
